Today I was struck by an article by ABC News about how college students are having more and more difficulties choosing their major.
The article talks about how being undecided can be a costly decision, potentially adding on extra semesters and $$$ to an undecided student's tuition bill. But despite the extra cost of switching majors, students are still having trouble making the choice.
For me, the article really hit home. It was only 3 years ago that I faced that decision, and had no idea what to do.
It's such a tough choice for us young people. We invest in college so we can make money when we graduate. If we change our course during college, we have to pay more money.
If we make the decision to switch, we think we need to justify it by choosing something that will get us a good job after we graduate to make up for all the extra money we had to spend to graduate. Except we don't know what major will guarantee us a good job in an uncertain workplace. So we can't decide on what to study, and then we really worry that we'll run out of money!
Confused? I certainly feel/felt that way!
